Amritsar Police Bust Cross-Border Arms and Drug Smuggling Module; Four Arrested, 2 Kg Heroin Seized

Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled an illegal arms and narcotics smuggling network, arresting four accused and recovering five sophisticated .30 bore pistols, 2.015 kg of heroin, and ₹5 lakh in suspected drug proceeds.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the operation was carried out as part of the Punjab government's ongoing drive to make the state safe and secure under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

The arrested accused have been identified as Bittu Kumar alias Bhaiya (20) of Navi Abadi, Amritsar; Sahib Singh (21), originally from Dhagana village and currently residing in Fateh Singh Colony, Amritsar; Sanjeev Kumar alias Nannu (22) of Pink Colony, Tarn Taran; and Sandeep Singh alias Sunny (22) of Chhiddan village, Amritsar.

According to the DGP, preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were actively involved in cross-border smuggling of illegal firearms and narcotics. Police are now probing the network to establish both backward and forward linkages and identify other members of the smuggling cartel.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said police teams acted on specific intelligence and initially arrested Bittu Kumar and Sahib Singh. One pistol was recovered from their possession at the time of arrest, while two additional pistols were recovered later based on their disclosure statements.

During interrogation, the duo confessed to their involvement in cross-border drug trafficking, leading police to arrest Sanjeev Kumar and Sandeep Singh. Officers recovered 2.015 kg of heroin and ₹5 lakh in drug money from their possession. Based on further disclosures by Sandeep Singh, police also recovered two more sophisticated pistols.

CP Bhullar revealed that Bittu Kumar is a habitual offender wanted in several criminal cases related to the Arms Act and theft. He also noted that all four accused are in their early twenties.

A case has been registered at Police Station Sadar, Amritsar, under relevant provisions of the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the cross-border smuggling network and trace its associates.
