Amritsar District Urban Police have arrested seven accused linked to two separate networks operating with alleged support from foreign-based smugglers.
Police recovered 10 illegal pistols, 1.054 kg of heroin, five live cartridges, and a drone from the possession of the accused during the operation.
Police Commissioner Harmandeep Singh Gill said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with smugglers operating from abroad. The foreign handlers were allegedly facilitating the supply of illegal weapons and heroin from across the international border.
The commissioner said investigators are now trying to establish the exact source of the seized weapons and narcotics and identify the intended recipients of the consignment within Punjab.
Two separate FIRs have been registered at Cantonment Police Station and D-Division Police Station in Amritsar. The accused are being interrogated to trace both the backward and forward links of the network.
Police teams are also working to identify other associates connected to the foreign-based handlers and gather intelligence about the wider cross-border network involved in smuggling drugs and weapons into the state.
According to officials, further arrests and additional recoveries are likely as the investigation progresses, and more details related to the network are expected to emerge during the ongoing probe.
