In a major counter-terrorism breakthrough, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled two international cross-border terror modules allegedly operating with the support of Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). A total of nine accused, including four minors, have been arrested in the operation.
Police recovered three illegal pistols, nine live cartridges and four petrol-filled bottles that were allegedly intended to be used as improvised explosive devices.
According to preliminary investigations, the arrested accused were in contact with ISI handlers based abroad and were acting on their instructions. Police officials said the youths were being radicalised and prepared for terror-related activities.
The accused had reportedly been assigned tasks such as conducting reconnaissance of security establishments, arranging illegal weapons and carrying out activities aimed at disturbing peace and law and order in Punjab.
During the investigation, police made another significant revelation. The accused had allegedly installed CCTV cameras near railway tracks for surveillance purposes. The footage recorded through these cameras was reportedly being sent to foreign ISI handlers to monitor sensitive movements and activities in the area.
Separate FIRs have been registered at Mohkampura, Airport and C-Division police stations in Amritsar. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the entire network and said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other members linked to the module.
Senior officials described the operation as a major success in preventing potential terror activities and protecting public safety in Punjab.
