A police car carrying an accused in an attempted murder case from Delhi Airport to Amritsar met with a serious accident in Khanna early Thursday morning. The Swift car carrying accused Jatinder Kumar collided with a canter on the Dahedhu flyover on the National Highway at around 4 am.

Five people, including four police personnel and the accused, were injured in the accident. Two of the injured are reportedly in serious condition.

The injured have been identified as ASI Gurdev Singh, Senior Constable Gurwinder Singh, Constable Avneet Singh, Pankaj Sharma, and accused Jatinder Kumar, a resident of Wadda Haripura.

Following the accident, the Road Safety Force reached the spot and shifted all five injured persons to Civil Hospital, Khanna. After receiving initial treatment, those in serious condition were referred to PGI Chandigarh and Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, for further treatment.

The police vehicle was badly damaged in the collision. Police have registered a case against the unidentified canter driver and launched a search to trace him.

According to police, Jatinder Kumar is facing an attempted murder case, and a Look-Out Circular (LOC) had been issued against him. He was allegedly preparing to flee to Dubai when Delhi Airport authorities caught him.

An Amritsar Police team was bringing him back from Delhi when the accident occurred. Following the crash, the injured accused was handed over to another Amritsar Police team.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and efforts are underway to identify and locate the canter driver.
