Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a major drug trafficking and illegal arms supply network, arresting eight accused and recovering large quantities of narcotics along with an illegal firearm.
According to police, the operation led to the seizure of 9.549 kilograms of heroin, 5.459 kilograms of opium, and one illegal .30-bore pistol from the possession of the accused.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested individuals were allegedly in contact with smugglers operating from abroad. The contraband, including heroin, opium, and illegal weapons, was reportedly delivered through drones before being distributed further through the network.
Police said links have also been established with several other associates believed to be involved in the supply chain. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend all members connected to the racket.
Separate FIRs have been registered at Cantonment Police Station, A-Division Police Station, and Chheharta Police Station in Amritsar. Investigators are currently questioning the accused and tracing both the backward and forward linkages of the network to uncover the full extent of the operation.
