Amritsar Police have stepped up restrictions to maintain law and order and ensure public safety across the city. Police Commissioner Harmanbir Singh Gill has issued preventive orders covering eight matters, including the operation of restaurants and clubs, loud music, encroachments, sale of firecrackers and carrying weapons in vehicles.
Under the new restrictions, restaurants and clubs will have to shut by 12 midnight, while DJs and loud music will not be permitted after 10 pm. The orders also lay down regulations governing the sale and use of firecrackers.
The police have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the restrictions.
The orders also refer to the Supreme Court's directions on noise pollution, under which noise from any source should not exceed the prescribed limit for the area by more than 10 dB(A) or 75 dB(A), whichever is lower. All institutions and establishments have been directed to ensure compliance with the stipulated noise standards.
The restrictions are aimed at preventing public nuisance, reducing noise pollution and strengthening security and public order in Amritsar.
