The Amritsar Commissionerate Police have busted a cross-border illegal arms smuggling module and arrested eight accused in a major crackdown. During the operation, police recovered 11 sophisticated pistols and eight live cartridges, dealing a significant blow to the network.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said in a post on X that the preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested individuals were in contact with foreign-based operatives allegedly involved in the supply of illegal weapons.

According to the police, the recovered firearms were intended to be delivered to criminal elements for use in extortion, violent crimes, and other illegal activities. Investigators suspect that the network was attempting to fuel criminal activities in Punjab by smuggling weapons across the international border.

Separate FIRs have been registered at Airport Police Station, Sadar Police Station, and Chheharta Police Station in Amritsar.

Police are now probing both the backward and forward links of the smuggling network to identify other members and associates. Authorities are also investigating how many more weapons may have been smuggled into Punjab through the same module.
