In a major crackdown on illegal arms and drug smuggling, Amritsar Rural Police have busted two alleged smuggling networks and arrested four accused. The police recovered 15 kg of opium, one M-16 rifle, nine illegal pistols and 25 live cartridges from their possession.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared details of the operation on his X account on Saturday.

According to the DGP, preliminary investigations have revealed the alleged links of the accused with smugglers operating from abroad. The accused are suspected of being involved in the procurement and supply of illegal weapons.

Separate FIRs have been registered at Gharinda and Lopoke police stations in Amritsar district in connection with the two cases. Further investigations are underway.

The police are working to identify other individuals associated with the alleged smuggling networks and establish the complete supply chain of illegal weapons and narcotics.

Investigators are also examining the accused persons' previous and current contacts to determine how the weapons were procured and distributed. The probe aims to establish the extent of the networks and identify other people who may have been involved in the illegal activities.
