In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Amritsar Rural Police have arrested an alleged smuggler and recovered 5 kg 28 grams of heroin from his possession. Officials said the seized contraband has an estimated international market value of around ₹35 crore, making it one of the largest heroin recoveries in the region in recent months.
The operation was carried out by the Gharinda Police Station team, following which a case has been registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of the law.
Police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the source of the heroin and the areas where it was intended to be supplied. Investigators are also examining the possible involvement of other members linked to the illegal drug network.
Senior police officials stated that no person involved in the narcotics trade will be spared, and strict legal action will be taken against all those connected to the racket.
Action Part of Anti-Drug Drive
Amritsar Rural Police clarified that the seizure is part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign being conducted under the directions of the Punjab Government and the Police Headquarters. The campaign aims to make society drug-free and protect the youth from the growing menace of narcotics.
Officials reiterated their commitment to intensifying operations against drug traffickers and dismantling organised smuggling networks operating across Punjab.
