A tragic road accident claimed at least 14 lives on Thursday near Rayavaram in the Markapuram district of Andhra Pradesh. The incident occurred when a private travel bus collided with a tipper lorry near the slab mines, leading to a massive fire.
According to police officials, the bus was traveling from Jagitial to Kaligiri at the time of the accident. The impact of the collision was so severe that the bus caught fire and was completely gutted within minutes.
Markapuram DSP Harshavardhan Raju stated that several passengers are feared to have been burnt alive in the blaze. He confirmed that the accident took place on Thursday morning and preliminary investigations suggest that the fire broke out due to the intensity of the crash.
Several passengers sustained injuries in the incident and have been admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities are currently working to identify the deceased.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep grief over the loss of lives. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and directed officials to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured. The Chief Minister has also ordered a thorough investigation into the accident.
