The internal discord within the Congress party has now become visible in Amritsar, where posters targeting former Punjab Chief Minister and Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi have appeared in public places. The development comes shortly after similar posters were reported in Fazilka, indicating that the controversy is spreading to other parts of the state.
The posters appeal for Channi’s expulsion from the Congress and carry several controversial slogans aimed at questioning his political loyalties.
One of the posters reads, “Ghar-ghar de vich chali gal, Channi chalya BJP val” (A message is spreading in every home that Channi is moving towards the BJP).
Another says, “Rahul Gandhi se Congressiyon ki ek hi pukar, Channi ko Congress se karo bahar” (Congress workers have only one appeal to Rahul Gandhi — remove Channi from the Congress). A third poster asks, “Channi ji, aapne BJP ki kyon maani ji? Saamne aao Channi ji” (Channi ji, why did you listen to the BJP? Come forward and explain).
So far, the Congress has not issued any official statement regarding the posters. The identity of those responsible for putting them up has also not been officially established.
The appearance of these posters has raised fresh questions about the internal politics of the Punjab Congress. Political observers believe that such incidents point towards ongoing differences and factionalism within the party.
However, it remains unclear who is behind the posters and what their exact motive is. The matter is likely to become clearer only after a detailed inquiry into the incident.
