Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has appointed 1994-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer Anurag Kumar as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police, replacing Satish Golcha.
Anurag Kumar, who was serving as the Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB), will assume charge with immediate effect. The appointment was announced through an official order issued by the MHA on Friday.
The order stated that, with the approval of the competent authority, Anurag Kumar, IPS (AGMUT:1994), has been appointed as the Commissioner of Delhi Police from the date he assumes charge until further orders.
The ministry has also relieved 1992-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer Satish Golcha from the post of Delhi Police Commissioner. Golcha has been directed to report to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi for his next assignment after handing over charge.
Golcha's tenure was scheduled to continue until May next year, making his early removal nearly 11 months before the end of his term. The move has sparked speculation over the reasons behind the leadership change, although the government has not issued any official explanation.
