National Sports Awards 2025 were announced on Tuesday, with 17 athletes selected for the prestigious Arjuna Award. However, no athlete has been chosen for the country’s highest sporting honour, the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, this year.

Sports Ministry announced the awards based on the recommendations of a selection committee headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice (Retd.) Arun Kumar Mishra. The awards recognise outstanding contributions by athletes, coaches and organisations across various sporting disciplines.

I Arumainayagam Gets Arjuna Award for Lifetime Achievement

The Arjuna Award (Lifetime) 2025 has been awarded to I Arumainayagam in football.

The lifetime honour recognises sportspersons who have made significant contributions to their respective sports and continued to promote and support the sporting ecosystem after retirement.

Three Coaches Selected for Dronacharya Award

Three coaches have been selected for the Dronacharya Award 2025:

  • Parveer Singh – Athletics

  • Chhote Lal Yadav – Boxing

  • Neha Nandkumar Chavan – Shooting

The Dronacharya Award honours coaches who have consistently produced outstanding results and helped athletes excel at national and international competitions.

Two Coaches Named for Dronacharya Award (Lifetime)

The Dronacharya Award (Lifetime) 2025 will be presented to:

  • Dharmendra Singh Yadav – Boxing

  • Virendra Kumar – Wrestling

Army Paralympic Node, Pune to Receive National Sports Promotion Award

The National Sports Promotion Award 2025 has been awarded to the Army Paralympic Node, Pune, for its contribution to the promotion and development of sports.

The National Sports Awards are presented annually to recognise exceptional achievements by athletes, coaches and organisations and to encourage the continued growth of sports in the country.
