Panic spread at Bathinda Railway Station after authorities received an email threatening to blow up the station with a bomb. Following the serious threat, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) were placed on high alert, and a large-scale security operation was launched across the station premises.
In view of Independence Day on August 15 and the upcoming festive season, the police administration is taking no chances. Teams from the GRP and RPF, assisted by a dog squad, conducted thorough searches of the main station building, platforms, waiting halls, entry and exit points, and other sensitive areas.
Passengers and their luggage are being subjected to intensive screening, while security personnel have been instructed to maintain strict surveillance on all suspicious activities.
GRP officer Kuldeep Chand said that security was immediately strengthened after the bomb threat was received. As part of the special security drive, around four dozen (more than 48) police and security personnel have been deployed at the railway junction to ensure the safety of passengers and railway property.
Police officials have appealed to passengers and visitors to remain vigilant. They have urged the public to immediately inform the GRP, RPF, or local police if they notice any unattended bag, suspicious object, or suspicious person inside the station premises or on trains.
The source of the threatening email is currently being investigated, and officials said that all necessary security protocols remain in force until the threat is fully assessed.
