A suspected operative of the banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), Harwant Singh alias Harry, has been taken into custody on a production warrant from Fatehpur Jail and placed on a two-day police remand for further investigation.
According to DSP Yadvinder Singh, the accused is currently being questioned to uncover details about the terror network and its activities. The interrogation is expected to provide crucial leads regarding the supply of explosives and weapons.
The development follows the arrest of Rajwinder Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran, along with two other accused by Gharinda police. The trio was allegedly found in possession of two hand grenades and seven pistols.
During questioning, Rajwinder Singh reportedly told investigators that the grenades had been recovered from the Gharinda area on the instructions of Harwant Singh alias Harry, who was lodged in Fatehpur Jail. Investigators suspect that the explosives were dropped into Indian territory by Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI using drones a few days earlier.
Police also stated that Harwant Singh alias Harry is accused of orchestrating the grenade attack on the residence of a retired police officer in Chandigarh last year. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the wider network behind the alleged cross-border smuggling of arms and explosives and any links to terror-related activities.
