Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) state office in Chandigarh received a threatening email on Thursday, warning of bomb blasts in cities that remain open during the Punjab bandh on August 21.

The email was sent to the official email address of the BJP’s Chandigarh state office and reportedly carried messages such as “21 August Punjab Bandh” and “31 August School Bandh.” The sender also called for schools to remain closed on August 31 and urged people to remember Shaheed Dilawar Singh Babbar.

The threatening message used references to Khalistan and allegedly mentioned the names of individuals linked to organisations such as the Khalistan National Army and Babbar Khalsa. It also contained claims related to bombs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The email further mentioned the name of the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) and threatened bomb attacks in cities where the bandh was not observed.

Police and security agencies have launched an investigation to trace the sender and determine the origin of the email. Authorities are also verifying the claims made in the message and examining whether the sender has any actual connection with a banned organisation or used a false identity.

Officials have not independently confirmed the threats contained in the email so far. Further investigation is underway.
