Security agencies have recovered nearly 30 kg of heroin during a joint operation in Fazilka district. The seizure was made by the 55 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) in coordination with the Counter Intelligence Wing.
According to officials, the international market value of the recovered heroin is estimated to be more than ₹150 crore.
The operation was launched after the Counter Intelligence Wing received a confidential tip-off regarding drug smuggling activities in the area. Acting on the information, BSF and Counter Intelligence teams set up a special checkpoint on Shatirwala Road in Fazilka.
During the naka operation, two youths travelling on a motorcycle were intercepted and searched. Officials recovered 53 packets of heroin concealed inside cardboard bundles from their possession.
Two Accused Arrested
Inspector Satish Kumar, in-charge of the Fazilka State Special Cell, identified the arrested accused as:
Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Noorshah village
Manpreet Singh, a resident of Hasta Kalan village, Fazilka district
A case has been registered against both accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the State Special Operations Cell police station in Fazilka.
Police officials said the accused will be produced before a court and their custody remand will be sought for further interrogation. Investigators are trying to determine the source of the heroin consignment and the network of individuals who were supposed to receive the drugs further down the supply chain.
