Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has broken his silence after a long gap, firmly ruling out any possibility of returning to the Congress party. He also admitted that he has not gained much politically after joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and considers himself out of the race for the Chief Minister’s post.
Amarinder Singh’s remarks come ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections and have sparked fresh political discussions in the state. The veteran leader had parted ways with the Congress in 2021 following a prolonged political tussle with Navjot Singh Sidhu. After his exit, Charanjit Singh Channi was appointed Chief Minister of Punjab.
Following his departure from Congress, Amarinder Singh launched his own political party before eventually merging it with the BJP. However, he has now expressed disappointment over his role within the saffron party, stating that he was not assigned any significant responsibility after joining it.
The former Chief Minister categorically rejected speculation about a return to Congress, saying there is no plan to rejoin the party. At the same time, he made it clear that he does not see himself as a contender for the Chief Minister’s post in the future.
His comments are being closely watched in Punjab’s political circles, especially as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The statement has renewed discussions about Amarinder Singh’s political future and his place in the state's evolving political landscape.
