In a major disciplinary action following the murder of Shri Kumar Medical Store cashier Janki Das in Chandigarh’s Sector 11, the Chandigarh Police has suspended five police personnel for alleged negligence in the discharge of their duties.
The suspended officials include SI Bachittar Singh of Police Station-11, Lady Constable Suman, Senior Constable Robin posted at Lake Police Post, Lady Constable Diksha of Police Station-3, and Senior Lady Constable Jaspal Kaur of the IT Park Police Station. They have been directed to report to the Police Lines in Sector 26 until further orders.
Chandigarh SSP Sumer Pratap Singh issued the suspension orders after an internal inquiry found that the officers failed to conduct proper checks at security barricades set up for maintaining law and order, allowing the accused involved in the firing incident to escape.
The investigation has also revealed a new twist in the case. Police believe that the actual target of the shooters was not cashier Janki Das but a prominent chemist operating in Sector 11. According to investigators, the contract to kill the businessman was allegedly arranged by a man from Ferozepur.
Following the shooting, gangster Goldy Dhillon released a voice message claiming responsibility and mentioning the name of Kumar Brothers, adding another dimension to the ongoing investigation. Police are continuing their probe to identify all those involved in the conspiracy.
