In the high-profile murder case of Shri Kumar Medical Store cashier Janki Das Two accused were injured in a police encounter in Chandigarh’s Sector 25 forest area after allegedly attempting to escape from police custody early Thursday morning.

According to police sources, the suspects had been arrested in Jammu & Kashmir on Wednesday and were being transported to Chandigarh when the incident occurred between 5:00 am and 5:30 am. Police teams immediately reached the spot and launched an investigation.

The operation was reportedly led by Operation Cell Inspector Harinder and Crime Branch Inspector Narendra Patel. During the encounter, accused Sunny Mehra sustained two bullet injuries, while the second accused, Aryan, was hit by one bullet. Police sources said all the injuries were in their legs, and both men were admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Sources further revealed that the Chandigarh Police vehicle was passing through the forested stretch near Sector 25 Chitkara when it allegedly crashed into a tree after the driver, who had reportedly been awake for several days, dozed off briefly.

Following the accident, the two accused allegedly snatched a police officer’s pistol and attempted to flee. They are also accused of firing two rounds at the police team.

Police personnel returned fire, injuring both suspects and preventing their escape. The driver of the police vehicle also sustained a neck injury in the crash.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the sequence of events surrounding the encounter.
