A Chandigarh court has restrained Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikramjit Singh Majithia, Congress MLA from Bholath Sukhpal Singh Khaira and retired Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice Ranjit Singh from posting or circulating unverified or defamatory content against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s wife, Dr Gurpreet Kaur.
Court passed the order on Wednesday while hearing a defamation petition filed by Dr Gurpreet Kaur against the three on September 8. The restrictions will remain in force until further orders. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for September 30.
The case stems from allegations made by retired Justice Ranjit Singh. He had alleged that Dr Gurpreet Kaur sought ₹5 crore to allegedly suppress a rape case in which Gur Chahal was named as the main accused and to facilitate the quashing of a case against a businessman.
Dr Gurpreet Kaur has challenged these allegations before the Chandigarh court, seeking legal action over what she termed defamatory and unverified claims.
