In a major breakthrough in the brutal murder of Suraj in Chandigarh’s Darwa area on Tuesday evening (May 12), police have arrested six minor accused. After being produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, all of them have been sent to a juvenile correction home.
The victim’s mother, Rajbala, has urged the Chandigarh administration to ensure the strictest punishment for her son’s killers, demanding either capital punishment or life imprisonment, saying such a punishment would act as a deterrent for anyone who dares to commit such a crime.
According to police, Suraj Kumar was returning home on his bike after finishing his duty when he was intercepted by a group of five youths. The attackers surrounded him and launched a brutal assault with knives and sharp-edged weapons.
Despite his attempts to escape, Suraj was repeatedly stabbed. He collapsed on the ground, after which the attackers allegedly struck him again with multiple blows. The incident took place in broad daylight.
Shockingly, locals were seen recording the attack from their balconies, but no one came forward to rescue the injured youth. He was rushed to GMCH-32 in critical condition, where doctors declared him brought dead.
