A 19-year-old youth from Chandigarh was killed and four others were seriously injured after an Ertiga car carrying five friends plunged into a deep gorge near Mandna village in Morni, a popular tourist destination in Haryana's Panchkula district, late on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Vishal, a resident of Behlana village in Chandigarh. The injured have been identified as Subjeet, Rahul Sharma, Shanky and Kuwar Singh. All of them were travelling together from Chandigarh to Morni for an outing.

According to police, the group was returning or travelling through the area when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle at a sharp turn near Mandna village. The car veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge, leaving the vehicle completely mangled.

Hearing the loud crash and cries for help, local villagers rushed to the spot and alerted the police. A joint rescue operation was launched by residents and police personnel, who pulled the injured occupants out of the gorge and shifted them to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Chandimandir police station SHO Rampal said the injured were admitted to hospital and are undergoing treatment. The body of the deceased, Vishal, son of Bindr, has been sent to the Civil Hospital mortuary in Panchkula.

Police have informed the victim's family and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
