Punjab Government has officially released the list of chief guests for the district and state-level Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2026. According to the notification issued by the state government, the state-level Independence Day function will be organised in Ferozepur, where Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will hoist the national flag and take the salute at the ceremonial parade.

In Ludhiana, Punjab’s major industrial hub, the Independence Day function at PAU Ground will be led by Finance and Excise Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, who will unfurl the tricolour and review the parade.

The government has assigned ministers and Assembly office-bearers to various districts for the celebrations.

Chief guests for major districts

  • Ferozepur (State-level function): Bhagwant Mann, Chief Minister of Punjab

  • Ludhiana: Harpal Singh Cheema, Finance and Excise Minister

  • Amritsar: Aman Arora, Minister for New and Renewable Energy

  • Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr): Harjot Singh Bains, Minister for School Education and Information & Public Relations

  • SAS Nagar (Mohali): Harbhajan Singh, Public Works Minister

  • Patiala: Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister

  • Gurdaspur: Dr Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Justice and Women & Child Development

  • Malerkotla: Dr Balbir Singh, Health and Family Welfare Minister

  • Fazilka: Lal Chand, Food and Civil Supplies Minister

  • Hoshiarpur: Dr Ravjot Singh, Parliamentary Affairs and Local Government Minister

  • Barnala: Barinder Kumar Goyal, Mining and Water Resources Minister

  • Bathinda: Hardeep Singh Mundian, Revenue and Housing Construction Minister

  • Sangrur: Tarunpreet Singh Sond, Tourism and Labour Minister

  • Jalandhar: Mohinder Bhagat, Defence Services Welfare and Horticulture Minister

Instructions for remaining districts

The government notification further clarified that in districts not included in the announced list, the Divisional Commissioner or the concerned Deputy Commissioner (DC) will perform the national flag-hoisting ceremony during the local Independence Day functions.

The announcement has set the stage for statewide celebrations marking India’s 79th Independence Day, with preparations expected to begin across all districts under the supervision of the designated ministers and district administrations.
