On the occasion of International Olympic Day, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu flagged off an Olympic Day Marathon from his official residence, Oak Over, in Shimla on Tuesday. The marathon proceeded via the CTO route and concluded at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex.

Nearly 200 athletes from the men's and women's categories participated in the event, celebrating the spirit of sportsmanship and fitness.

Extending his greetings on International Olympic Day, the Chief Minister said that the state government is continuously working to promote sports in Himachal Pradesh. He emphasized that sports serve as an important medium of education and encouraged athletes to strive for excellence and bring laurels to both the state and the nation through their talent and dedication.

Sukhu also stated that efforts are underway to host Khelo India competitions in Himachal Pradesh. He highlighted that sports infrastructure has been significantly strengthened in the districts of Bilaspur, Kangra, Una and Hamirpur.

The Chief Minister further informed that a state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence is being developed in Nadoun, Hamirpur district, at an estimated cost of ₹150 crore. The project is expected to be completed by October and is aimed at providing world-class training facilities for aspiring athletes.
