A major fire broke out in a moving CNG-powered canter (container truck) on the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway (NH-48) near Gurugram on Tuesday, triggering panic among commuters and causing temporary traffic disruptions.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck was travelling from Jaipur to Delhi when thick smoke suddenly started emerging from the lower section of the vehicle’s cabin. Within seconds, flames spread rapidly, engulfing the cabin as the vehicle continued moving on the expressway.
The driver, however, remained calm and acted quickly. After noticing the smoke and sparks, he slowed the vehicle, steered it to the roadside and jumped out to safety moments before the truck was completely engulfed in flames. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The blaze soon turned the canter into a fireball, sending massive plumes of smoke across the highway and affecting visibility for motorists. The incident caused inconvenience to commuters as smoke spread over a considerable stretch of the road.
A highway patrol team rushed to the spot and immediately implemented safety measures. Police temporarily diverted traffic through a single lane on both sides of the highway to prevent any further danger.
Fire department officials were alerted and multiple fire tenders reached the scene. Firefighters faced challenges in controlling the blaze due to the presence of CNG cylinders. Teams continuously sprayed water to cool the cylinders and prevent any explosion.
After a prolonged operation and coordinated efforts by the fire and police personnel, the fire was brought completely under control. Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident.
