A 20-year-old college student was seriously injured after a group of youths allegedly attacked him with sharp-edged weapons and sticks in Derabassi, Mohali. His car was also badly damaged during the incident.

The victim, identified as Taranpreet Singh, son of Bhupinder Singh of Paragpur, is a second-year Arts student at a government college. He was returning home by car after college when the attack took place near the railway crossing on Isapur Road.

According to the complaint, a numberless Thar SUV came from behind and intercepted his car. Several youths allegedly got out of the vehicle and attacked Taranpreet with sharp weapons and sticks. They also vandalised his car before fleeing the spot.

Passers-by rushed the injured student to the Derabassi Government Hospital. Considering his serious condition, doctors provided initial treatment and referred him to GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

While receiving treatment, Taranpreet alleged that two youths from his college, identified by him as ‘Kurli’ and ‘Guri’, were involved in the attack along with some unidentified accomplices.

Police have launched an investigation and are verifying the allegations. Officers are questioning people in the area and examining CCTV footage from nearby cameras to identify the attackers and determine the motive behind the assault.
