A Raksha Bandhan visit turned into a nightmare for a family after a couple and their young daughter were allegedly attacked by a group of youths in Indra Colony on Chabal Road in Amritsar. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras, prompting police to launch an investigation.
According to Neelam Rani, mother of the injured man Anand Arora, her son had gone to his sister’s house to celebrate Raksha Bandhan and get a rakhi tied. After the ceremony, Anand was returning home with his wife and young daughter when the incident occurred.
Neelam Rani alleged that a car was parked on the road, and her son merely requested the driver to move the vehicle aside. The request reportedly led to an argument, after which several youths stepped out of the car and allegedly began assaulting Anand and his family.
The victim’s family claimed that the attackers first used sticks and beat Anand even after he fell to the ground. They further alleged that the assailants later called additional accomplices to the spot. According to Neelam Rani, some of the accused were carrying sharp-edged weapons and a pistol.
Upon receiving information about the attack, Neelam Rani rushed to the scene and tried to rescue her son. She said it took considerable effort to pull him away from the attackers. She also alleged that her husband was assaulted during the incident.
The injured man was admitted to a hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, police reached the spot and took possession of the CCTV footage. Officials have begun examining the recordings to identify the accused and ascertain the sequence of events.
The victim’s family has demanded strict action against those involved. Expressing her anguish, Neelam Rani said no family should have to endure such a violent ordeal over a minor roadside dispute.
