A tragic road accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh claimed the lives of seven people on Thursday after a Bolero vehicle plunged into a deep gorge near Chatrund on the Chamba-Masrund road.
According to officials, the Bolero (HP-01C-2581) lost control and fell nearly 500 metres into a ravine. All seven occupants, including three women and three men from the Saprot village under Mahala panchayat, along with the driver, died on the spot.
The victims were returning home after attending a mundan ceremony in Kakrotha village when the accident occurred. Locals said the vehicle suddenly veered off the road near Chatrund before plunging into the gorge.
Soon after receiving information, police, local administration teams, and villagers rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. All seven bodies were recovered with great difficulty from the deep gorge and sent for post-mortem examination.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. Preliminary inquiries are focusing on possible overspeeding, road conditions, or mechanical failure.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Saprot village and the surrounding region, with widespread mourning reported across the area.
