Delhi High Court has issued a notice to actor Salman Khan on a petition filed by the producer of the film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy. The producer has sought the return of a petition filed by the actor seeking a ban on the film, arguing that the Delhi High Court lacks territorial jurisdiction to hear the matter.
A bench headed by Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani granted Salman Khan four weeks to file his response. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for December 16.
Film producer Amit Jani, in his petition, argued that Salman Khan’s plea suffers from a lack of territorial jurisdiction. He also submitted that the actor had already sought relief concerning the same film in another lawsuit related to personality rights, claiming that the fresh proceedings raise similar issues.
Salman Khan had earlier approached the court seeking a ban on the film and its promotional material. The actor alleged that the film infringes upon his personality rights and is inspired by the 1998 blackbuck poaching case involving him.
In July, the court had passed an interim order directing the removal of the film’s teaser and related promotional material.
The High Court has now sought Salman Khan’s response to the producer’s petition, giving both sides an opportunity to present their arguments before further proceedings.
