A film based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, starring Diljit Dosanjh, has been unexpectedly removed from the OTT platform shortly after its release, triggering widespread criticism and raising questions over the decision.
The film, originally titled 'Punjab 95', had reportedly faced a three-year delay before being released on the streaming platform under the new title 'Satluj' just two days ago. The biographical drama is inspired by Khalra, who had alleged that around 25,000 Punjabi youths were killed in fake encounters during the militancy period in Punjab.
Reacting to the film's removal, Diljit Dosanjh expressed disappointment, saying, "Humanity has died. I am not upset that the film has been removed from the internet because it has already reached the people. Once something is on the internet, it is not easy to erase. The advisers behind this decision are not right. The same thing has happened to this film that happened to Khalra Ji."
The removal has also sparked anger among members of the Punjabi film industry, with several artists criticizing the decision and expressing support for the film.
However, no official explanation has been given regarding why the film was taken down or who ordered its removal. In its statement, ZEE5 said that, "Considering the current circumstances, 'Satluj' will not be available on the platform until further notice." The streaming service added that it is exploring all appropriate legal options to make the film available to viewers again as soon as possible.
