A 52-year-old doctor allegedly died by suicide in Karnal after hanging himself in his room. He used to run a clinic in Rattak village. A suicide note recovered from his pocket has accused three individuals of mental harassment and coercion.
The deceased, identified as Mahipal Rana, a resident of Upalana village, was found hanging in his room on Friday night around 10 pm. Family members immediately informed the police, following which local police and a forensic team reached the spot and initiated an investigation. His body was later sent for post-mortem after being taken into custody.
According to the suicide note, the doctor claimed he was falsely accused of administering a drug injection. He further wrote that the complainant’s son had not received any drug injection but had actually consumed pesticide. Despite this, he alleged that he was being pressured to pay ₹7 lakh under the pretext of treatment.
Based on the complaint and the contents of the suicide note, Assandh police have registered a case against three individuals and launched an investigation into the matter.
Family members alleged that Balwant Singh, a resident of Rattak village, had accused the doctor of giving a drug injection to his son, after which the boy’s condition deteriorated. The complaint was also reportedly escalated to the health department, which had earlier recorded the doctor’s statement.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the facts behind the allegations and the circumstances leading to the death.
