A shocking incident of murder-suicide has emerged from Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, where a man allegedly shot his wife dead before taking his own life. The tragedy unfolded on Sunday evening in a village under the Fatehgarh Churian constituency in Batala.

According to police, the bodies of the couple were discovered inside their house in Kadiana Rajputan village. The woman was found lying on the floor, while the man’s body was recovered from a sofa. At the time of the incident, both were alone at home.

The deceased have been identified as 42-year-old Barinder Singh alias Binda and his wife Parmeshil alias Shelly (40). Barinder Singh was married for the second time, as he had earlier divorced his first wife, Harjinder Kaur.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the couple had been facing ongoing domestic disputes. On the day of the incident, a heated argument reportedly broke out between them. In a fit of rage, Barinder Singh allegedly used his licensed pistol to first shoot his wife in the leg and then in the right side of her head. He later shot himself in the chest, ending his life.

The couple is survived by their two daughters, aged 9 and 7.

DSP Lalit Kumar stated that the police have taken both bodies into custody and sent them to Batala Civil Hospital for postmortem. The licensed weapon used in the crime has been recovered from the scene, and further investigation is underway.
