In a shocking case from Grand Haven Township in Michigan, a woman who was found dead alongside her six children had reportedly accused her husband of having an affair with a young intern before the tragedy occurred.
According to investigators, 47-year-old Christopher Karolkiewicz allegedly shot and killed his wife, 39-year-old Amanda Mandy Karolkiewicz, and their six children, aged between 5 and 15, at the family’s home before taking his own life.
Emergency responders were called to the residence on July 24 after a fire broke out at the property. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Monday that all eight family members died from gunshot wounds and described the incident as a suspected murder-suicide. Officials also said that the family’s pets were killed in the fire.
Investigators believe multiple fires may have been deliberately set inside the house after the shootings, and the circumstances surrounding the blaze remain under investigation.
According to reports by The Detroit News and The Holland Sentinel, Amanda had written about her marriage in 2024 on Reddit under the username MandyK1179. In the posts, she said she first met Christopher while she was working as an intern and noted that he was older than her and had already been divorced.
Amanda later alleged that, after years of marriage and raising children together, her husband became involved with another intern who was the same age she had been when they first met.
In one post, she wrote that after “ten years and five children,” he was “cheating again with an intern,” adding that it took her a year to stop blaming herself for his actions. Despite the alleged affair, she said she tried to preserve the marriage primarily for the sake of their children.
She also described the relationship as emotionally difficult, claiming her husband had grown up in a toxic family environment where dishonesty was normalized. Amanda said the couple had sought both individual and marriage counseling after she discovered what she described as secretive behavior.
In another post, she admitted that she physically pushed her husband after learning about the alleged affair and said she was mentally devastated and reacted impulsively.
Authorities revealed that Christopher had recently lost his job at the American Heart Association days before the killings. He had previously served as a vice president of sales and marketing for the organization.
Amanda had worked in banking and insurance before later becoming a substitute teacher with the Grand Haven Area Public Schools district. The couple reportedly met while working for a beverage company and married in August 2009. They had been together for nearly 17 years before their deaths.
The investigation into the shootings and the fire is ongoing.
