A 40-year-old factory owner was allegedly murdered by one of his friends in Har Gobind Nagar under the Haibowal police station area of Ludhiana late Friday night.
The deceased, identified as Jatinder Rajput, was involved in the business of printing on clothes. According to police, Jatinder was drinking with his friends on the first floor of his factory on Friday night when an argument broke out over an issue.
The dispute reportedly escalated, following which one of the accused allegedly picked up a sharp-edged weapon lying nearby and repeatedly attacked Jatinder on the neck. He suffered severe blood loss and died at the spot.
After the attack, the accused allegedly switched off his mobile phone and fled the scene.
The incident came to light around 9:30 am on Saturday when Jatinder's brother reached the factory and found his body, triggering panic in the area.
Soon after receiving the information, Haibowal Station House Officer Jasvir Singh reached the spot along with a police team and forensic experts. The crime scene was sealed, and fingerprints and other evidence were collected.
Police took the body into custody and sent it to the Civil Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. An investigation is underway to identify and arrest the accused.
