A search operation conducted by the administration at Faridkot Central Modern Jail has led to the recovery of four mobile phones from four inmates, including gangster Navjot Singh, who is allegedly linked to the terrorist Arsh Dalla gang.
Following the seizure, the jail administration lodged complaints with the police, on the basis of which two cases have been registered against the accused under the Jail Act.
According to the first complaint submitted to the police, Assistant Superintendent Karmjit Singh Bhullar said that search operations are carried out periodically in different barracks on the instructions of the Jail Superintendent to prevent illegal activities inside the prison.
During the latest operation, officials searched Barrack No. 6 of Block-B. A touch-screen mobile phone along with a SIM card was allegedly recovered from the possession of high-risk inmate Navjot Singh, a resident of Barnala.
Navjot Singh is currently lodged in Faridkot Central Jail under judicial custody. He was arrested in connection with the murder of Gurpreet Singh of village Harinau and is alleged to have links with the Arsh Dalla gang.
Jail administration has initiated further action, while police have begun an investigation to determine how the mobile phones were smuggled into the high-security prison and whether other inmates or external persons were involved in the operation.
