Panic spread at the Omaxe BPL Flats in Bahadurgarh on Tuesday after three members of a family were found dead inside their apartment in an apparent murder-suicide.
According to police, 38-year-old Sunil, a resident of Khodan village in Mahendragarh district, allegedly fed a poisonous substance to his two young sons before dying by suicide by hanging. The deceased children have been identified as six-year-old Mohit and ten-year-old Rohit.
Sunil had married Madhu in a love marriage four years ago. Madhu was previously married, and Mohit and Rohit were her sons from her first marriage. She has been reported missing since the incident, and police have launched a search to trace her.
The tragedy came to light on Tuesday morning when neighbours noticed no movement from the flat and received no response after repeatedly knocking on the door. They alerted the police, who forced open the door and found Sunil hanging inside the apartment, while both children were lying dead on a bed.
Preliminary findings suggest the children may have been administered a poisonous substance before Sunil took his own life. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police said no suicide note was recovered from the scene, and the motive behind the incident remains unclear. Investigators are examining all possible angles, including the circumstances surrounding Madhu's disappearance and whether it has any connection to the case.
A case of suspected murder and suicide has been registered, and police are questioning family members as the investigation continues.
