Five senior students accused of ragging a Class 9 student at the prestigious Dagshai Public School in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district have been suspended by the school authorities.
All five accused students are residents of Punjab and are studying in Classes 11 and 12. The victim is also from Punjab.
Dagshai Police registered a case on Monday evening based on a complaint filed by the victim, Talwinder Manesh, and others. The police have stepped up the investigation and are scheduled to visit the school to question the five accused students.
The hostel warden will also be questioned as part of the probe. Police have already recorded the statement of school principal Ravindra Vohra on Monday evening.
The incident reportedly took place on September 5, when five senior students allegedly dragged a Class 9 student into his hostel room and assaulted him. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media. The footage purportedly shows one of the students slapping the junior, while abusive language can also be heard.
According to the complaint submitted to the police, the senior students had allegedly been ragging, intimidating and physically assaulting junior students and using abusive language for the past four months.
Police are now investigating the allegations and will question the accused students and hostel authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether further action is required.
