Former Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer Niranjan Singh has joined Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De), the party led by Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh. He formally became a member of the party during an event in Chandigarh in the presence of Amritpal Singh’s father Tarsem Singh and MLA Manpreet Ayali.
Niranjan Singh served for many years at the ED’s Jalandhar office and was associated with investigations into several high-profile money laundering and Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) cases linked to Punjab. During his tenure, he played a key role in probing the drug-related money laundering case involving former Punjab Police officer Jagdish Singh Bhola around 2013-14.
In 2016, Singh was promoted from Assistant Director to Deputy Director in the Enforcement Directorate. He decided to leave the agency in 2018 despite having nearly three years left before retirement. He later formally retired from service on May 31, 2021.
His induction is being seen as a notable addition to Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De), bringing with him extensive experience in financial investigations and enforcement-related matters.
