Punjab Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) president Aman Arora on Monday took a swipe at the Congress leadership over the appointment of Pargat Singh as the new Punjab Congress chief, claiming that party workers were disappointed with the decision.

Arora said it had been four days since Pargat Singh was appointed Punjab Congress president, but he had still not arrived in Punjab.

“Meeting senior leaders is a good thing. We have learnt that Pargat Singh is seeking an appointment with Rahul Gandhi, but he is not being given time,” Arora said.

Referring to reports about Pargat Singh meeting the wife of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Arora said such meetings were welcome.

“It is a good thing. One should meet elders. This also proves how important Punjab is for the Congress central leadership,” he said.

Arora alleged that Pargat Singh was being ignored by the Congress leadership and that this had created disappointment among party workers.

“Nowhere is there any celebration. Channi sahib's son is posting tweets, while Raja Warring is going to London with his family. These circumstances suggest that the high command's decision was not in accordance with the sentiments of Congress workers,” Arora said.

Pargat Singh was recently appointed as the new president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, replacing Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. The appointment came amid ongoing discussions within the party over its leadership and organisational strategy in Punjab.
