Four Held Including Juvenile for Attack on Chamiari Police Post in Amritsar

In a major breakthrough in Punjab’s ongoing drive to make the state safe and secure, the Amritsar Rural Police have arrested four accused, including a juvenile, in connection with the attack on Police Post Chamiari under Police Station Ajnala, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said on Friday.

The arrested accused have been identified as Karanbir Singh alias Gora, Manideep Singh, both residents of village Harar Khurd in Amritsar, Pardeep Singh alias Love, a resident of Gujjarpura in Amritsar, and a juvenile.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with an ISI-sponsored handler through social media and had received funds to carry out the attack.

He said further investigations are underway to establish the backward and forward linkages, identify the entire network, and trace the funding channels involved in the case.

The attack took place on the intervening night of July 21 and 22, 2026, when unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly hurled an incendiary object at Police Post Chamiari.

Sharing operational details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said that special teams were constituted immediately after the incident to crack the case.

“Based on human intelligence and technical inputs, the suspects were identified. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the four individuals,” the SSP said.

According to the SSP, Manideep Singh and Pardeep Singh allegedly conducted reconnaissance and planned the attack, while Karanbir Singh and the juvenile associate executed the assault on the police post. The motorcycle used in the incident is yet to be recovered.

SSP further said that preliminary findings suggest that ISI handlers are allegedly attempting to recruit and radicalise unemployed youth in the 15–25 age group to carry out anti-national activities in the border state.

A case has already been registered as FIR No. 250 at Police Station Ajnala under Sections **109, 326-B, 221, 132, 48, 111, 113, 61(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police officials said the investigation is continuing and more arrests and disclosures are likely as the network behind the attack is being probed.
