Gold and silver prices witnessed a sharp decline on Monday, July 28, according to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA).
Silver prices fell by ₹6,543 per kilogram, bringing the rate down to ₹2.18 lakh per kg. Meanwhile, the price of 24-carat gold declined by ₹1,907 per 10 grams, taking it to ₹1.43 lakh per 10 gm.
Gold Still Up ₹10,000 in 2026
Despite the latest fall, gold prices have shown significant volatility throughout 2026. Since the beginning of the year, gold has still gained around ₹10,000 per 10 grams.
On December 31, 2025, the price of 10 grams of gold was slightly above ₹1.33 lakh, compared to the current level of ₹1.43 lakh.
Silver Down ₹12,000 This Year
Silver has moved in the opposite direction. The metal was priced at ₹2.30 lakh per kg on December 31, 2025, and has now declined to ₹2.18 lakh per kg, marking a drop of nearly ₹12,000.
Prices Had Hit Record Highs Earlier
Both precious metals touched historic highs earlier this year. On January 29, gold had surged to an all-time high of ₹1.76 lakh per 10 grams, while silver had climbed to ₹3.86 lakh per kg.
Experts Advise Gradual Investment
Commodity expert Ajay Kedia said that gold and silver prices have corrected considerably from their peak levels, making them attractive for long-term investors. However, he cautioned against making lump-sum investments and suggested investing gradually.
According to Kedia, gold could rise again to ₹1.60 lakh per 10 grams by the end of the year, while silver may climb to around ₹2.80 lakh per kg if global market conditions remain supportive.
