In a major relief for millions of farmers across the country, the Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme for another five years.
With this decision, the scheme will remain in force from financial year 2026-27 to 2030-31, ensuring that eligible farmers continue to receive ₹6,000 per year as financial assistance from the Central Government.
Cabinet has also proposed a budget allocation of more than ₹3.15 lakh crore for the extended period, underlining the government’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector.
Under the PM-Kisan scheme, beneficiaries currently receive ₹6,000 annually in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each. The amount is transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
There has been speculation in recent months about a possible increase in the instalment amount. However, the government has not announced any decision to enhance the payment, meaning farmers will continue to receive ₹2,000 per instalment for now.
The extension of the scheme is expected to benefit crores of small and marginal farmers by providing them with continued income support and greater financial stability over the next five years.
