Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday accused the Narendra Modi-led central government of protecting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar ahead of the INDIA bloc’s planned march towards the Supreme Court.

Addressing people at Indira Bhawan before the march, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government was making a major mistake by shielding the Chief Election Commissioner. He described the protest as a fight between the people and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Gyanesh Kumar.

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha also alleged that people were being prevented from reaching Delhi and claimed that the national capital had been turned into a fortress, with police personnel deployed across the city.

Referring to the reported deployment of 20,000 to 30,000 police personnel, Rahul claimed that the security arrangements reflected the government's attempt to protect Gyanesh Kumar.

He further claimed that around 50 per cent of Delhi Police personnel agreed with his position and alleged that police officers and administrative officials were also unhappy with the government's approach.

Rahul said police personnel had questioned why they were being asked to use force against young protesters, adding that they did not want to mistreat young people. He also accused people associated with the BJP and the RSS of targeting the youth.

The Congress leader alleged that the government was attempting to suppress the movement against alleged vote theft. He questioned why Gyanesh Kumar had not resigned and claimed that the protesters had not been given an appropriate venue to demonstrate.

Rahul also alleged that demonstrators were being prevented from proceeding to Jantar Mantar. The INDIA bloc's planned march towards the Supreme Court comes amid opposition demands and allegations concerning electoral processes and the role of the Chief Election Commissioner.

The allegations made by Rahul Gandhi were not independently verified in the information provided.
