A tribute programme was organized at Raj Bhavan today on the occasion of the Mahaparinirvan Diwas of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla offered floral tributes before the portrait of Dr. Ambedkar in the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that Dr. Ambedkar laid the strong foundation of social justice, equality and constitutional values, which will continue to guide the nation for generations to come. He said that it is our collective responsibility to imbibe his ideals and contribute towards building an inclusive, just and empowered India.
The Governor said that today, the Indian democracy based on the Constitution drafted by Dr. Ambedkar is regarded as the largest democracy in the world. He remarked that through various provisions and articles, the Constitution clearly defines the importance of both rights and duties for every citizen.
“We often remain conscious of our rights, but it is only by fulfilling our duties that our rights remain protected,” Shukla said. “Therefore, we must first adhere to the duties enshrined in the Constitution.” He added that remembering great personalities like Dr. Ambedkar on their birth and death anniversaries inspires us to follow the path shown by them. He said Dr. Ambedkar awakened the nation by gifting the Constitution to the people of India.
On the occasion, Shri Dev Ji Bhujjia and Ms. Rachna from the International Federation of Red Cross, and Shri John George from the International Committee of Red Cross, along with officers and employees of Raj Bhavan also paid floral tributes.
