Punjab Newsline | Rajouri
Tension gripped Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Saturday after reports emerged of two to three terrorists being spotted in the Mughalan area. Security forces immediately launched a massive search operation in the region.
During the initial phase of the operation, a brief exchange of fire took place between the terrorists and security personnel. However, firing has reportedly stopped for now. Due to the dense forest cover and difficult hilly terrain, personnel of the Indian Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police are advancing cautiously.
According to highly placed sources, a joint team of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police received intelligence inputs about the presence of two to three terrorists hiding in the Dorimal forest area. The terrorists are suspected to have infiltrated into Indian territory from Pakistan.
In a post on X, the White Knight Corps said contact with the terrorists was established around 11:30 am during a joint operation launched by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Central Reserve Police Force in the Seri Mughalan area. Following the contact, troops responded in a well-coordinated manner, leading to an exchange of gunfire between both sides.
So far, there has been no official confirmation of any casualties. Security forces remain on high alert as the terrorists may attempt to use the dense forests and mountainous terrain to evade the ongoing operation.
