A sessions court in Hamirpur on Saturday granted regular bail to Praveen Sharma and Umesh Sharma, uncle and brother of Hamirpur Sadar MLA Ashish Sharma, in connection with an alleged illegal mining case.

The two had been in judicial custody since April 15, after being sent to jail by an ACJM court following a period of police remand. After spending 17 days behind bars, they secured bail from the Sessions Judge’s court.

The case dates back to August 13, 2025, when police conducted a raid at a closed stone crusher unit in the Pungh Khad area under Sujanpur police station limits. During the operation, authorities allegedly seized stones, gravel, and machinery from the site.

Police had named four individuals as accused in the case, including Praveen Sharma, Umesh Sharma, and two employees. The employees were granted anticipatory bail by the Supreme Court on March 19, 2026.

However, the anticipatory bail pleas of Praveen and Umesh Sharma were rejected, and they were directed to appear before the court by April 16. The duo surrendered on April 15, after which they were first sent to police remand and later to judicial custody.
