Harpal Singh Cheema Holds Extensive Meetings with Transport and Employee Unions

Punjab Finance and Transport Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday held a series of comprehensive meetings with representatives of transport sector unions and public sector employee organizations to address their genuine demands and work-related challenges. The meetings were conducted in a phased manner to ensure detailed discussions on each issue raised by the unions.

During the key meetings related to the transport sector, Cheema held extensive deliberations with delegations from the Punjab State Goods Transport Association and the Small Scale Bus Operators Association.

Describing the transport industry as the backbone of Punjab’s economy, the minister reiterated the Bhagwant Mann government’s full commitment to supporting the sector. “The Punjab Government is fully committed to extending every possible support to the transport sector, and all genuine demands of both associations will be resolved in a time-bound manner,” Cheema said during the discussions.

To ensure prompt administrative action, the minister directed Transport Department Secretary Varun Roozam and State Transport Commissioner Parneet Shergill to carefully examine the memorandums submitted by the transport unions, prepare concrete solutions to the major issues, and convene follow-up meetings at the earliest to finalize the matters.

Apart from the transport-related discussions, Cheema also chaired meetings as the head of the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to resolve employees’ issues. He held detailed interactions with representatives of the GPWSC Water Supply Pump Operator Association Punjab, NHM Employees Union, Outsource Health Department Employees Union, and Punjab Pradesh Palladar Mazdoor Union.

Responding to the concerns raised by the employee and labour organizations, Cheema said that the Punjab Government was treating their demands with full sensitivity and seriousness. He assured the union representatives that necessary steps were being actively considered to provide timely relief and resolve their grievances effectively.

Representatives from various organizations participated in the meetings and presented their respective demands before the minister. The Punjab State Goods Transport Association delegation included Charan Singh Lahoria, J.P. Aggarwal, Balraj Sharma, Comrade Prem Singh Banur, and Shaminder Singh Brar. The Small Scale Bus Operators Association was represented by Darshan Singh, Sandeep Sharma, Jagrup Singh, and Barinder Singh.

The GPWSC Water Supply Pump Operator Association was represented by Beant Singh and Avtar Singh, while the NHM Employees Union delegation included Sandeep Kaur, Jasvir Singh, and Dr. Wahid Mohammad.

Representatives of the Outsource Health Department Employees Union included Gurjinder Singh Aulakh, Harmandeep Singh Sidhu, and Nazar Singh. The Punjab Pradesh Palladar Mazdoor Union delegation comprised Shinderpal Singh and Jagtar Singh.

The meetings are being viewed as a significant step by the Punjab Government toward strengthening dialogue with transport operators, employees, and labour organizations, while ensuring that their pending issues are addressed through structured administrative follow-up and continued consultations.
