Heavy rainfall has intensified across Himachal Pradesh as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rain across several parts of the state from July 27 to August 2. According to the IMD's Shimla Meteorological Centre, the heaviest rainfall is expected between July 28 and July 31, while isolated areas may also receive heavy showers on July 27.
During the past 24 hours, Kandaghat in Solan district recorded the highest rainfall at 106.4 mm. Other major rainfall figures included 40.2 mm in Kahu (Bilaspur), 39.2 mm in Kothi (Kullu), 34.5 mm in Sarahan (Shimla), 31 mm in Jogindernagar (Mandi), 24.4 mm at Jatton Barrage (Sirmaur), and 16.8 mm in Shimla city.
The weather department said that the active monsoon trough and a western disturbance are driving the widespread rainfall, with wet weather expected to continue over the coming days.
Authorities have warned that the persistent rain could trigger landslides, flash floods, waterlogging, and disruptions to road connectivity, particularly in hilly regions. Residents and tourists have been advised to avoid riverbanks, streams, and landslide-prone areas, and to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts before travelling.
IMD has urged people to remain vigilant and follow official advisories as Himachal Pradesh remains under a heavy rainfall alert until August 2.
