Continuous overnight rainfall has disrupted normal life in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu and Mandi districts, triggering landslides, falling rocks, and traffic disruptions across several routes.
The most serious incident occurred on National Highway-305 between Kiran Bazaar and Barad in Ani, where debris and rocks suddenly fell from a hillside onto a moving car during heavy rain. The vehicle was badly damaged and two occupants were trapped inside the debris.
Local residents and passersby rushed to the spot, rescued the injured men, and shifted them to Ani Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The landslide also affected traffic movement on NH-305.
The injured have been identified as Padam Singh (53), son of Gumat Ram, resident of village Doghri, Post Office Nigan, Ani tehsil, Kullu district.
Abdul Rahman (32), son of Nawabdin, resident of village Dogrimod, Post Office Nigan, Ani tehsil, Kullu district.
In a separate incident near Ani’s new bus stand, a large boulder rolled down the hillside and struck a taxi parked along the roadside. The car suffered extensive damage, though no one was inside at the time, preventing any casualties.
Heavy rain has also worsened conditions in the Sainj Valley. A landslide near Siund on the Neuli-Sainj road has blocked vehicular movement on the route.
In Bakshahal village of Sainj, water flowing from a roadside area has increased the risk of landslides near around 11 houses, raising concerns among residents. Authorities have been informed and the situation is being monitored.
Highways and alternative routes affected
Apart from NH-305, the Mandi-Kullu National Highway and several alternative roads have also been affected by landslides and falling stones, causing interruptions in transportation and connectivity.
Officials have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable hill areas as rainfall is expected to continue, increasing the possibility of further landslides and road blockages.
